He was born in New Orleans on 22 June 1816, baptized at St. Louis Cathedral on 30 Sept 1816. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">For several years it was believed that Joseph's middle name was Dayant. However, after careful examination of documents including the will of JB, his father, it was determined that Joseph did not have a middle name. Please see blog post and comments of 6 December 2010 under subcategory of wills, for a discussion of this subject.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">The following document is from the Notarial Archives of New Orleans for Notary Theodore Seghers, January - March 1836. I believe it shows that Joseph purchased land from Charles Drouet. However, I can't read French so I don't know what it says for certain. It mentions Union Street, between Morales and Urguhart Street and I am not sure if is the piece of land he is buying or if that is where he is currently living, or both! I don't think the document has any other important information, but what do I know! It is difficult to decipher but I think the document is dated 26 April 1836.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Joseph married Julia Raby (Rabby) on 5 January 1837 at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Mobile, AL. They had 8 known children from 1837 to 1860 and lost two young children to Scarlet Fever in 1860.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Luce died on 14 December 1838 at her son's home, Joseph. The death record states he was living on Union Street, between Morales and Urguhart Street, suburb Marigny 3rd municipality, in NOLA.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Joseph was listed in the early 1840's city directories in Mobile then beginning in the 1851 directory back in NOLA near Marais and Treme. The later part of the 1850's they were living on Gasquet and tax lists show he was a retailer and a cigar maker/tobacconist in the 1860's at Canal & Basin in NOLA. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">He died 13 February 1867 at 165 Gasquet Street in New Orleans and is buried at St. Louis Cathedral Cemetery #2 in NOLA. Records show that his son Joseph was living at 165 Gasquet Street in 1869 so we can assume that Joseph, the father, died at his son's home. The death certificate states he died of liver problems, however, over three thousand people parished in New Orleans from Yellow Fever in 1867. Perhaps he also contracted Yellow Fever.</div>Edna Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16539257835533531645noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932243141418616035.post-75539721738930156892011-06-22T19:53:00.000-07:002011-06-22T19:53:48.128-07:00Family Tree Magazine Best 101 Genealogy WebsitesI know this is off topic....but I had to share. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Each time Family Tree Magazine releases their "101 Best Websites" I look to see if there is something I have not investigated. Many of the sites are the same as previous years. There are sites that don't interest me, some that I am already familiar and some times I get excited to find a new place to search. If you haven't already taken a look at the list, here is the address: <http://www.familytreemagazine.com/Article/101-Best-Websites-2010> . Be sure to check out the entire list, but take a look at a new free search engine geared to genealogists! <http://blog.mocavo.com/> Unfortunately, I have not found anything new about the Pinta surname. However, I was very successful in finding new sites for other names I am researching. Enjoy! </div>Edna Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16539257835533531645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932243141418616035.post-42960520122387125822011-06-12T08:21:00.000-07:002011-06-12T08:21:19.210-07:00Jean Lucien Pinta<div style="text-align: justify;">Jean Lucien Pinta was the 7th child of Jean Baptiste and Luce, was born 24 July 1813 and baptized at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans on 19 March 1814. Little is known about this child because he died at the age of 2, and was buried 26 July 1815, according to St. Louis Cathedral records. </div>Edna Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16539257835533531645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932243141418616035.post-5672195470608055632011-05-22T22:10:00.000-07:002011-05-23T06:53:31.550-07:00Jean Claude Foloe Pinta<div style="text-align: justify;">Well Jean Claude Pinta, you have really confused me! And the rest of you will also be confused if I can explain the full scope of the conflicting documentation. So the pressure is on..... </div><ol style="text-align: justify;"><li><span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span>BIRTH/BAPTISMAL RECORD: </li>
</ol><ul style="text-align: justify;"><li>Jean Claude was the sixth child of Jean Baptiste and Luce and was born about 1809-1811 based on his age found on various pieces of evidence. However, I can't find a baptismal record for him, even though Louis Henry, Juan Marcelino and Marie Josephine had their baptismal records listed in Vol 10 of the Sacramental Records for the Archdiocese of New Orleans for 1810-1812. Jean Lucien is found on Vol 11 for 1813-1815. A friend checked Vol 9 1807-1809 and found nothing for Jean Claude. If he was baptized 1809-1811 we could assume his baptism would be listed in one of those volumes.</li>
</ul><div></div><ul style="text-align: justify;"><li>The will of Jean Baptiste in 1820, lists his son, Claude age 9 and there was no mention of a son named Juan/Jean Marcelino. </li>
</ul><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><ul style="text-align: justify;"><li>The recorder of the baptism of Juan Marcelino, Archdiocese of New Orleans, listed his name incorrectly because the priest was probably Spanish and changed his French “Jean” to Spanish “Juan”. If the priest made this error on the name, is there another error? </li>
</ul><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><ul style="text-align: justify;"><li>Juan Marcelino could have died very young and perhaps we have not yet located a death record. Was Jean Claude baptized elsewhere? Not likely. Did the baptism of Jean Claude get overlooked when the Archdiocese volumes were produced? OR could Juan Marcelino be Jean Claude? </li>
</ul> 2) RELATIONSHIPS/MARRIAGES<br />
<ul style="text-align: justify;"><li>Jean Clode Foloe Pinta married Margueritte Colin, 28 October 1828 in Mobile. (Jean Claude would have been age 17-19). No known children from this marriage.</li>
</ul><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><ul style="text-align: justify;"><li>According to <u>Abstracts of Orphans Court Minutes of Mobile Co</u>, entered July 24, 1830: <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">John Glode Foloe PINTA produces will of TROUILLET, Margaritte, deceased, his wife</i>. Guardians were appointed for <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Emeline TROUILLET alias Emeline PINTA, infant under 14 years; and Henry TROUILLET alias PINTA, under 14. </i>Will book 1 states: <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Margaritte Trouillet, a free woman of colour……..unto my two children, Emeline, who is aged about eight years and Louis Henry, my son aged about nine months, and to my friend Toloe? Pinta, who is the father of my two before mentioned children.</i> The is contradictory in that the first record states they are married but the later insinuates they are not married, but Jean Claude is the father of her children. (He would have been age 11-13 at the birth of Emeline and age 18-20 when Louis Henry was born.) Perhaps he really wasn’t the father of Emeline. Was TROUILLET his concubine? He just married COLIN a year before the birth of Louis Henry? </li>
</ul><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><ul><li>Married Marie Victoria Raby 2 December 1833. They had five children between 1834 and 1843.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Is Margueritte Colin and Margaritte Trouillet the same person? </li>
</ul><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Jean Claude died the same day as Nicholas, his son with Marie Victorie Rabby, on 22 September 1852. Cause of death has not been located for either Nicholas or Jean Claude.<br />
<br />
Are there two Jean Claude Foloe Pinta men in the area, about the same age, with similar names? </div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Lots of questions and the documentation we have is unclear. This is a great deal of info for one posting. More research needs to be done to get this all straightened out. So, are you now as confused as I? Let me know what you think!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br />

She was born on 31 August 1810 and baptized 12 Feb 1811 at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, LA. There is no other information located, yet, about her short life, except that at the age of 5 she was buried on 22 September 1815 at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans. Seems New Orleans had a high mortality rate due to the summer heat and humidity which made it a perfect climate for mosquitoes. Possibly Marie Josephine died of yellow fever or cholera, which plagued the city for years. </div>Edna Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16539257835533531645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932243141418616035.post-85268344180311901772011-04-09T22:00:00.000-07:002011-04-09T22:00:40.682-07:00Juan Marcelino Pinta<div style="text-align: justify;">Juan Marcelino Pinta was JB Pinta and Luce Grandmaison's 4th child. He was born 1 August 1809 and baptized 20 October 1810 at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, Louisiana. Little is known about Juan Marcelino at this point. The 1820 census for NOLA lists Miss Pinta on St. Anne Street as head of household, showing 3 free colored males under the age of 14. We can assume it was probably Juan and two siblings, Jean Claude & Joseph. There has been no further documentation found on his life and the will of Jean Baptiste Pinta does not name JC as one of the children. Perhaps he had already died by the time JB's will was written in 1820.</div>Edna Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16539257835533531645noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932243141418616035.post-27990889649674610792011-03-19T20:03:00.000-07:002011-03-19T20:03:54.673-07:00Louis Henry Pholoe Pinta<div style="text-align: justify;">The third known child of Jean Baptiste Pinta and Luce Henriette Grandmaison was Louis Henry Pholoe Pinta. He was born 1 August 1807 in Santiago de Cuba and baptized 20 October 1810 at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, Louisiana. Louis Henry was baptized the same day as two other siblings: Silvanie Anne and Juan Marcelino.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">He went by the name of Henry throughout his life. Has anyone heard of the name of Pholoe? One of Henry's younger brothers was also given the same middle name, Jean Claude Pholoe Pinta. Is this a common name of the time, did the family have a special reason to give two of their children the same middle name, or is it a title of some type? Families often named their children the same middle name in honor of an ancestor, but at this point we have not found any ancestors named Pholoe. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Louis Henry married Louise Etienne Jamet (unknown date) and they had one known child, Henry, who was born about 1836. Records show that Louis Henry owned slaves and in 1847 his widow pleaded for emancipation of her slave Erlne. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> Louis Henry died 26 May 1836, at the age of 30, and is buried in St. Louis Cathedral Cemetery #2 in New Orleans, Louisiana. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

Silvanie was born about 1806 and died in Mobile, AL on 17 May 1847 at the age of 41. Information about her life has been difficult to locate and a fellow researcher has done a great deal of searching for the mysterious Silvanie. She had children with a man whose last name was Prados but we are not certain of his first name. It also appears that Silvanie was never married. Documentation indicates that Silvanie used her sister's name, Marie Josephine Pinta, on several occasions and perhaps took her identity for several years after Marie passed away at the age of 5 in 1815. Supposition is that Silvanie did this because Marie Josphine's birth certificate states she is white. Silvanie, in the process of "passing", seized an opportunity to help her accomplish her goal. We will continue to look for Silvanie and hopefully answer some of the questions we have about her life.</div>Edna Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16539257835533531645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932243141418616035.post-61679357933041224412011-02-15T08:35:00.000-08:002011-03-20T10:54:09.104-07:00Charles Beauvilaires Pinta<div style="text-align: justify;">Charles Beauvilaires Pinta was probably the first born child of Jean Baptiste Pinta and Luce Henriette Grandmaison. Born about 1803, in Cuba. On 19 February 1829, at the age of about 26 in Orleans Parish, Louisiana, he married Eulalie Allain, daughter of Valerien Allain and Dorothee Lassise. Eulalie was the widow of Pierre Derestan Dalcour. Charles Beauvilaires and Eulalie had five known children between 1831 and 1838.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div>According to a fellow Pinta researcher, CB was a sponsor at the baptism for one of Casimir Pinta's children in April 1827.<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">In the early to mid 1830's CB's occupation was listed as dry goods/grocery. He bought & sold slaves, and was trying to find his direction in life to best support his family. Beginning in 1838 records indicate he was a jeweler and continued in that occupation through 1855. Previously, in 1822, his mother Luce was a jeweler, continuing her late husband's business. It would appear that CB worked with his father, learned the trade and perhaps helped his mother after JB died in 1820.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">CB opened an account at Freedman's Bank on 4 February 1873. He was listed as white and living at Gasquet #165. He outlived his wife and children and died at the age of 70 on 17 March 1873 in Orleans Parish, Louisiana. </div>Edna Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16539257835533531645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932243141418616035.post-60830591804501635752011-02-08T07:12:00.000-08:002011-02-22T20:07:29.907-08:00Jean Baptiste Pinta parents<div style="text-align: justify;">According to transcriptions of the Archdiocese of New Orleans baptismal records:</div><div style="text-align: justify;">20 Aug 1810, Juan Marcelino Pinta, paternal grandparents were: Luis PINTA and Maria Juana FERTE </div><div style="text-align: justify;">30 Sep 1816, Joseph Pinta, paternal grandparents were: Luis PINTA and Maria Durna FERTE</div><div style="text-align: justify;">The original French record for Joseph can be seen on the 13 December 2010 posting, but is very difficult to read. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

1) What is his birth year/date?<br />
2) What is his death date?<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Born 1767 or 1768: If I am reading the document correctly, JB was 35 when he was a witness at the baptism of Anne Joseph Brunet on 9 September 1803 (see image on 13 Dec 2010 post). </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Born 1775-1794: 1820 Census for New Orleans, LA does not list the names of each person in the household, however, head of household is Miss Grandmaison. All members of the household are listed as free colored persons except for one, who is listed as a white male between age 26-45. If this entry was referring to JB, he would have been born 1775-1794. The rest of the Pinta family members fit into each age category, living at Rue Ste Anne which is where JB was living when he made out his will in April of that year. Considering the census began in 7 August 1820 and JB died in May, perhaps the census taker included all who had lived in the household in 1820. This would explain why Miss Grandmaison (Luce) is listed as head of household. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Born 1772-1773: Death Record for JB states he died 3 May 1820 at the age of 47, if I understand it correctly. This death record was recorded on 22 July 1820, several months after his death. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrbckolejfB4JkX5wvP9QSqUE2Qfhs1b1-9MFUj5hGF3E5GPDO6jmctm9D80sa_TMzJus_oYrtC9PDl36v5ubz3Zblg4rRymqhFGUWGFULrNuHnNju6S0sPsWVj3SBhB3yPOoCx-W8ABJn/s1600/Jean+Baptiste+Death+cert.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="293" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrbckolejfB4JkX5wvP9QSqUE2Qfhs1b1-9MFUj5hGF3E5GPDO6jmctm9D80sa_TMzJus_oYrtC9PDl36v5ubz3Zblg4rRymqhFGUWGFULrNuHnNju6S0sPsWVj3SBhB3yPOoCx-W8ABJn/s320/Jean+Baptiste+Death+cert.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">Born 1767 or 1768: If correctly translated by a friend, JB's will was written on 29 April 1820, which states he was about 52 at the time (see post of 5 November 2010 for image). </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Born 1768 or 1769: The Sacramental Records of the Roman Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of New Orleans states he was buried on 14 May 1820, his death date was omitted, and he was age 51 when he died.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">JB's death record, above, states he died 3 May 1820 and the Archdiocese record mentioned above, states he was buried 14 May 1820. Something is incorrect. He would not have been buried 11 days after his death, unless maybe there is an interesting story about it, which we will probably never learn. But I doubt it! I think one of the dates is wrong. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">If I were to settle on a date I would probably choose 1768 for JB's birth and 13 May 1820 as the day he died. Let me know what you think. Anyone have any additional documentation showing birth or death dates for JB? Any ideas?</div>Edna Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16539257835533531645noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932243141418616035.post-34116430054408302472010-12-31T17:10:00.000-08:002010-12-31T17:10:23.296-08:00Marriage document and transcription for Joseph & Julia<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNms5-3Ap-WbH_cnPvuW4hdDXgMfLtXhpJBVHmzKQszddJoZBsg6_kPgx5keGclzsNvfb6_j2jPVKIf4-IaGY_ztN8TST76WQsKre_EOtJ2fJlYa7Gh3SYMgg6TPGd1H_3-IoEOZUSJ9CO/s1600/Joseph+Pinta+%2526+Julia+Rabby+marriage+Cathedral+of+Immaculate+Conception+Mobile%252C+AL.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="292" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNms5-3Ap-WbH_cnPvuW4hdDXgMfLtXhpJBVHmzKQszddJoZBsg6_kPgx5keGclzsNvfb6_j2jPVKIf4-IaGY_ztN8TST76WQsKre_EOtJ2fJlYa7Gh3SYMgg6TPGd1H_3-IoEOZUSJ9CO/s320/Joseph+Pinta+%2526+Julia+Rabby+marriage+Cathedral+of+Immaculate+Conception+Mobile%252C+AL.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

How about making a genealogy New Year's Resolution! What is one thing you want to accomplish this year in your research? I am working on my goal and considering I have so many genealogy questions, the biggest problem is deciding on just one resolution. <br />
<br />
Did our ancestors make New Year's resolutions? Did they have a glass of champagne & kiss at midnight? Maybe---maybe not!<br />
<br />
1 January 1837 must have been a time of anticipation for Joseph Pinta and Julia Rabby...they were surely thinking about their future together. They were married on 5 January 1837 at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mobile, Alabama by Mathias Loras, Vicar General. An interesting note is that it was on a Thursday. Why Thursday? Was Julia pregnant? However, their first known child, Victoria, was born on 3 December 1837. Did they elope or have a small private ceremony? Their marriage is listed in the Book of Black Marriages, so were black marriages performed only on certain days of the week?<br />
<br />
What do you think?Edna Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16539257835533531645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932243141418616035.post-61162565331626651242010-12-24T09:16:00.000-08:002010-12-24T09:16:48.043-08:00Merry Christmas!<i><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">May you all have a blessed Merry Christmas.</span></i>Edna Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16539257835533531645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932243141418616035.post-41803361761746058292010-12-13T19:25:00.000-08:002011-03-20T10:56:14.808-07:00What is the Gery/Jeury/Seury in some of the Pinta documents?<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: inherit;">Most of the numerous documents I have collected with JB's name show him as Jean Baptist Pinta or J. B. Pinta. He seems to only sign his name as J. B. Pinta. However, the following documents show the addition of another name which has been confusing. Is it a title, a family name, an indication of an area in which he lived or what? Why would it been used sometimes and not all the time? Perhaps some of you may have an opinion on this. Please leave your comments.</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />

(See posting of 5 Nov 2010) Many of us blindly took the information as fact and changed all of our records to include the middle name of Dayant. Well, there is an example of jumping to conclusions, especially considering: 1) the document was in French and none of us were fluent in the French language, 2) it was a handwritten document which was difficult to read due to deterioration of the original document and the microfilmed image was rather messy. A kind sole eventually translated the will, but still, that particular name was not clearly determined. However, we continued on our merry way thinking he had a first and middle name. </div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">It soon dawned on me that other acquired documents did not include a middle name or initial for Joseph. I did a survey and pulled every document in my possession. This consisted of viewing 69 various records which showed his name. This included city directories, baptismal records, census, successions, death records, tax assessments, obituaries, marriage records, notary records and deeds. Well, guess what....not one of them listed Joseph with a middle name or initial. In my opinion, his real name is....Joseph Pinta.</div>Edna Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16539257835533531645noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932243141418616035.post-59763662436252534712010-12-02T15:44:00.000-08:002010-12-03T15:49:21.826-08:00Jean Louis David Desire Rasteau, brother of Modeste Rasteau<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

At about age 30 he said good-bye to his parents and siblings in France and traveled to Haiti seeking adventure and riches, probably in the sugar cane industry. This would have been prior to1803, which was when his first known child was born in Haiti. He later took his children and Luce Grandmaison, the mother of his children, to New Orleans by way of Cuba. Documents indicate that he cared for Luce and the children until his death, even though Luce and JB were never married. Speculation is that Jean Baptiste Casimir Menial (see post of 11/17/10), Luce's younger half brother, also moved with them from Haiti to New Orleans. </div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Jean Baptist Pinta operated a jewelry shop at 35 Bourbon Street in New Orleans in 1811, became treasurer of the The Grand Lodge of Louisiana of New Orleans, trained young men in the jewelry business and served in the war of 1812. After his death the The Grand Lodge of Louisiana of New Orleans, land owner Celestin Pontalba, and probably others, attempted to sue the estate claiming JB had debts to pay and suggesting that he was less than honorable. I have not yet found where any money was to be paid to these accusers, however some of the documents were impossible to read. Originally, my first reaction was that he was a rascal and had a sizable estate due to shady dealings. However, in taking another look at all this, perhaps others saw the potential of trying to take advantage of the sizable estate and manufactured debt after his death.</div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">JB carefully drafted his will leaving his estate to his siblings in France and his children. However, he also listed people he owed money and requested they be paid. He seemed to be concerned about taking care of family and extended family. Could this really be a man who was also dishonest.....well look at the Godfather or Sopranos, they took care of their own while messing with the rest of the community. Granted, they were theatrical productions but history shows that there was a good amount of truth in these lifestyles. Was this the same type of attitude?</div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Hard to determine what really transpired. All parties involved would have been influenced by his status, in one way or another. Any ideas as to where we can get more documents?</div>Edna Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16539257835533531645noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932243141418616035.post-60392733192533249122010-11-17T19:41:00.000-08:002010-12-03T15:52:39.034-08:00Pinta Family of Vera Cruz and Pinta Family of Louisiana<div style="text-align: justify;">According to Southwest Louisiana Records, Rev. Donald J. Hebert, Jean Baptiste Casimir Menial Pinta was the son of Menial Casimer and Modesto Rattau, (with spelling variations), born about 1800 in Port au Prince.</div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">The baptismal certificate for Luce Henriette Tieraronne/Tieruranne, see image on blog dated 9/24/10, shows that Luce is the child of Modesto Rasteau born 1787. Luce later had children with Jean Baptist Pinta.</div><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">1) Can we assume that Luce Henriette Tieraronne/Tieruranne is the same Luce Henriette Grandmaison?</div><div style="text-align: justify;">2) Where did the name Tieraronne/Tieruranne or Grandmaison come from?</div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Speculation from another researcher believes that Jean Baptist Pinta and Luce Grandmaison left Haiti with their children and Jean Baptiste Casimir Menial and raised him with their family. JBC Menial would have been the younger half brother of Luce Grandmaison. It is JBC Menial who eventually moved to Vera Cruz, Mexico and developed a sugar cane plantation and JB Pinta, the elder, remained in the Louisiana area. </div><br />
This all seems very logical and the dates seem to fit, but more proof needs to be collected. Any comments?Edna Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16539257835533531645noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932243141418616035.post-66833419972337429782010-11-08T19:31:00.000-08:002011-01-01T00:05:18.621-08:00Rasteau genealogy, as of Nov 2010<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhSyDj79n-9O-n0-IzODrZVdHNzBZpdV0Alhk0mnpK6f2UMjAeMxI0EEELWbxPXrufqRbdgohKUrus1GL9K6Q2FKqd69A0o57hQHRHc3WhfrKR4sARs0tiJWWPUG2GkJ7XmuM9tu87CPvI/s1600/Rasteau+decendant+Nov+2010+pg+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhSyDj79n-9O-n0-IzODrZVdHNzBZpdV0Alhk0mnpK6f2UMjAeMxI0EEELWbxPXrufqRbdgohKUrus1GL9K6Q2FKqd69A0o57hQHRHc3WhfrKR4sARs0tiJWWPUG2GkJ7XmuM9tu87CPvI/s320/Rasteau+decendant+Nov+2010+pg+1.JPG" width="258" /></a></div><br />
